Razzoq Hamroev

Renowned theater and film actor Razzoq Hamroev was born in Bukhara in 1910. He graduated from the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute in 1954. He worked as an actor, director, chief director, and artistic director at the Namangan Musical Drama and Comedy Theater from 1931-1945, and as an actor and director at the Muqimi Musical Drama and Comedy Theater from 1946, serving as chief director from 1959-1976.

The roles of Nozim in S. Abdulla's «Tahir and Zuhra» and Khisrav in Khurshid's «Farhad and Shirin» were the actor's first roles created on the theater stage. Later, he created many bright characters one after another, such as Rustam in U. Ismailov's «Rustam», Ferdinand in F. Schiller's «Intrigue and Love», Pantalone in C. Gozzi's «Princess Turandot», Muqimi in S. Abdulla, T. Jalilov, and G. Mushel's «Muqimi», Hamza in K. Yashin and A. Umariy's «Hamza», Navoi in I. Mahsumov's «Navoi in Astrabad», Trufaldino in C. Goldoni's «Servant of Two Masters», Cavalier in «The Mistress of the Inn», and Malvolio in V. Shakespeare's «Twelfth Night».

Our people know R. Hamroev not only as a theater actor but also as a talented film actor. He created deep, philosophical, and meaningful characters on the screen. Immortal characters such as Nozim in N. Ganiyev's «Tahir and Zuhra», Khoja Nasriddin in «The Adventures of Nasriddin», Alisher Navoi in K. Yormatov's «Alisher Navoi», Beruni in «Abu Ali ibn Sina», Muqimi in Y. Azamov's «Furqat», and Mirzakarim Qutidor in «Days Gone By» hold an important place not only in the actor's work but also in the history of Uzbek cinema.

The role that introduced R. Hamroev to the broad cultural public and made him famous across the nation is the image of Alisher Navoi in the film «Alisher Navoi», which toured screens around the world. The actor left an indelible mark on the history of Uzbek art as a talented actor who created a peerless image of Navoi, setting a permanent monument for himself. By vividly portraying Alisher Navoi as a brilliant poet, a great thinker, and a mature statesman and public figure, he skillfully conveyed the poet's inner feelings to the audience and demonstrated his great talent in expressing the era's contradictions in the 15th-century feudal environment.

Roles created by R. Hamroev such as Toshtemir the tightrope walker in R. Botirov's «Tightrope Walkers», Ibn Iraq in Sh. Abbasov's «Abu Rayhan Beruni», Rahimjon the water distributor in the «Mirzachul» film shot at the Dovzhenko Film Studio, Jafarbek in Yu. Stepachuk's «Jaihun», Usmanboy in «Testaments of an Old Master» (3-part film), Usta Nosir in «Legend of Khorezm», Hazrat in Sh. Abbasov's «Fiery Paths» multi-part TV series, and Ismail in Z. Sobitov's «Planes Couldn't Land» are considered among the best characters created in Uzbek cinema of the 70s.

The artist, who had his own place in theater and cinema art, also worked in directing, successfully staging dramas, comedies, and musical dramas such as «Farhad and Shirin», «Layli and Majnun», «Golden Lake», «Nurkhan», «Intrigue and Love», «Muqimi», «Black Rose», «Before Fergana Dawned», «Toshbolta in Love», and others, and was a co-author of plays for «Black Rose», «Before Fergana Dawned», and other productions.

He also closely supported the republic's regional theaters and staged many works. M. Qoriev's «Magic Ring» was staged in Namangan theaters, and G. Khojaev's «Young-Hearted Elders» was staged at the Osh theater.
For his services in the prosperity of Uzbek theater and cinema art, Razzoq Hamroev was awarded the title of «People's Artist of Uzbekistan» and state awards (1948, 1949).
Razzoq Hamroev, an owner of a unique talent, passed away in Tashkent in 1981.
